Are Gratitude Journals Toxic Positivity?

The title of this blog comes from an interview I recently watched online and they were discussing positive states and the difference to that and toxic positivity. Then the person doing the interviewing decided to throw the gratitude journal under the bus as toxic positivity.

While I agree that writing things in a gratitude journal just for the sake of it and having no real connection to the event of the feeling of gratitude is not a good idea, I do think gratitude journals have a place in your armoury. Firstly I would say, only do it if it makes you happy and feel good, it is pointless if it is a task you do just because. Also find a way to connect with the gratitude from a point of love and genuine feeling. Check out the video for a very quick exercise you can do to bring more gratitude into your life.

Drop me a line or add a comment and let me know how you found the exercise and what came up for you x
